Kristen Connolly's Dana is a decent and empathetic primary protagonist, but the real casting highlight is Fran Kranz, who completely steals the
show as one of the great all - time
movie stoners Marty, whose unique drug - addled world logic not only aids
in its survival, but provides some of the film's best
jokes.
I haven't seen this prequel yet, but I can tell that it's a yabba - dabba - dud just like the first
movie because I read
in the Denver Rocky Mountain News that the
movie opens with an obscene flatulence
joke courtesy of a dinosaur, to
show only how much contempt the filmmakers have for the audience.
That being said,
in the
movie's one surprising twist, despite an R rating ripe for some knowing
jokes about how a network television
show entirely built around T & A could never actually
show either, the only nudity here is one dead man's penis.
The
movie's best
jokes are already
in the trailers and the
jokes not
shown are really not that funny.

show exists
in the form of 12 - minute - or-less bursts between commercials, and that's about as long as the
movie sustains any individual
joke.
This is an actual
joke in the
movie (stated once and
shown another time), which regularly engages
in a brand of absurdity that combines the ridiculous and the grotesque at various levels.
It's hard to know if more convincing relationships would have made a difference
in a
movie so committed to funny accents and potty
jokes, but at least it would have
shown some effort.
It's useless to get mad at this
movie, which is nothing more than a collection of
jokes about bodily functions that occasionally laughs at people injuring themselves
in order to take a break from gags about urine, vomit, soft - serve chocolate ice cream that looks like it's coming out of a man's rear end, a showroom - floor toilet that a different man sleepily decides to use to deposit what the ice cream is representing, another guy
showing off his ability to «burp - sneeze - fart,» and more.
Even those who aren't amused by the penguins
in the
movies, where their dynamic alone was the
joke, should enjoy this
show which goes beyond that premise with diverting character and story material.
