I still think a smoothie should be somewhat sweet and creamy, and
instead of
blending a whole bunch of veggies together, which could be a little strange and not very appetising, I have made a green
juice out of broccoli, lemon, cucumber, zucchini and apples and then
blended it with avocado and almonds.
Instead of
blending the fruit, I use the Raaw Foods cucumber / pineapple
juice available at Whole Foods (www.raawfoods.com) It's additive free and though it's not raw, it is only «lightly» processed.
Except you need orange
juice, and limes, and a spice
blend; plus you usually want to sear it in a pan, before transferring to the oven, or slow - cooker to roast for 6 - 8 hours, and while that's generally fine, sometimes it's Tuesday, and you don't know what you are going to have for dinner, and you are definitely not going to do all the work for carnitas (unless you decide at the last minute to go out
instead to satisfy said craving).
Instead of raw eggs, this Avocado Carbonara is sauced with a
blended mix of a ripe California Avocado, lemon
juice, Parmesan cheese, salt and pepper.
I also really enjoyed
blending the smoothie with apple
juice instead of water or plant milk as it added a nice sweetness.
My next batch I used my «Swerve»
blend instead of honey, along with 1/2 tsp lemon
juice & double baking soda.
Substitutions:
Instead of using butter milk (no one makes a lactose - free buttermilk and even if they did I wouldn't pay the money when I can do this:), I mixed 1 cup of milk with 1 tablespoon of lemon
juice and let the mix set while I made up the flour
blend (BTW this is a great trick for making buttermilk pancakes as well).
Here are my substitutions: 1) nutmeg
instead of allspice 2) cranberry
juice instead of OJ 3) spiced rum
instead of whiskey / rye 4) strong tea
blend with added apples / orange / ginger (called xmas
blend at my local tea shop)
instead of just strong coffee / tea 5) double the vanilla (I always double the vanilla) Ps this is my very first comment on any cooking / baking blog:)

Juice, choose one of the freshly squeezed
juices instead of the sugary
blends they so commonly whip up.
Also used lemon
instead of lime
juice but I think the resulting salad is still a nice
blend of fresh flavours that went well with Tandoori chicken.
On the last few days, I used the same ingredients that I would have
juiced for my Spicy Avocado Soup and made a raw soup,
blending everything in my Vitamix
instead of putting it through the juicer.

blended or bottled
juices found at your local juicery or smoothie bar.
Add all ingredients to a food processor, blender or juicer (if you want
juice instead) and
blend until smooth and creamy.
