We are currently
in the process of DNA testing our dogs for the gene that carries the early onset
Juvenile Cataract (DNA for JC) and a Few more tests for the frenchies.
Heart murmurs,
juvenile cataracts, liver shunts, cleft palates, luxating patellas and predisposition for chriptorchidism are a few health disorders seen
in this breed.
The health issues associated with this breed are mainly genetic
in nature such as seizures and defects of the eye (
juvenile cataracts and glaucoma).
The one we fear the most are
Juvenile Cataracts which will cause total blindness
in a very young dogs.
An OFA (documentation form) will be included stating that your puppys hearing has been «cleared» as well as its JHC (DNA test for
juvenile cataracts) A microchip will be included to identify your puppy
in case it should ever get lost / stolen (heavens forbid!)
In addition, all Bostons are tested for the
Juvenile Cataract Gene.

in vision to complete blindness.
Very few cases of
juvenile cataracts have been found
in the Lagotto.
