The kid plaintiffs, ages 9 to 20, allege the federal government is doing far too little to
keep dangerous global warming in check, and is actually creating warming by leasing federal property for fossil fuel extraction.

The big question is will they be enough to help
keep global warming below 2 °C, a politically agreed threshold generally deemed to represent the level of
dangerous climate change.
That's the message one researcher has for the planet's physicians, the climate scientists who are diagnosing whether a new international agreement can
keep us from busting the boundary of
dangerous global warming.
To minimize the risk of
dangerous global warming, some scientists suggest
keeping concentrations of heattrapping emissions in the atmosphere below 450 parts per million (CO2 equivalent).
Such higher levels of
warming would make it much more difficult for countries to
keep the
global temperature rise to below 2C, as they agreed to do at the landmark Paris climate summit last year, to avoid
dangerous extreme weather and negative effects on food security.
Keep all this in mind when the President and other Washington politicos bring up «
dangerous manmade
global warming,» insist that we slash fossil fuel use, and tell us we need to give poor countries billions of dollars a year to compensate them for «losses and damages» they incurred due to
warming we caused.
Although there is considerable scientific evidence that limiting
warming to 1.5 degrees C is necessary to prevent very
dangerous warming, a fact implicit in the recent Paris Agreement in which nations agreed to work to
keep warming as close as possible from exceeding 1.5 degrees C additional
warming, if the international community seeks to limit
warming to 2 degrees C it must assure that
global emissions do not exceed the number of tons of CO2 emissions that will raise atmospheric concentrations to levels that will cause
warming of 2 degrees C.
Every country would voluntarily pledge to restrain its greenhouse gas emissions and meet regularly at the United Nations to ratchet up ambitions over time — all in the hopes of
keeping global warming below the «
dangerous» level of 2 °C.
Problem is, it's pretty much just a retread of the path the U.S. is already on, which isn't enough to
keep global warming from crossing the «
dangerous» two degree Celsius threshold — a point above which scientific consensus paints an increasingly bleak future, with
global impacts capable of destabilizing human society.
Dr. Roy Spencer is a well - known
global warming skeptic — while accepting that CO2 will cause some
warming, he believes that natural feedbacks will
keep warming from being
dangerous.
PARIS (December 8, 2015)-- The Science Based Targets initiative announced today that 114 companies have now committed to set emissions reduction targets in line with what scientists say is necessary to
keep global warming below the
dangerous threshold of 2 degrees Celsius.
