When we adopted our beautiful GSD we initially called him Brandy, but when we registered him with the AKA (American
Kennel Association), they informed us that we needed to
choose a different
name because there were numerous GSD with the
name Brandy.
First, the
names chosen for the pit bull and related breeds by the
kennel clubs are poor choices, leading to even more unnecessary confusion.
The American
Kennel Club (AKC) doesn't allow duplicate dog
names, and will ask you to
choose another
name if your pick is already taken.
The United
Kennel Club recognized the Jack Russell Terrier in 1991 and did not change the
name to Parson Russell Terrier,
choosing to represent the Jack Russell Terriers instead.
If your new puppy will be eligible for registration with the the American
Kennel Club, then you can
choose a longer formal
name to put on his papers and a simpler call
name for everyday use.
