by Johns Hopkins researchers.

By looking at the genes of the children who participated in TEDDY, we can now identify who among them is at highest risk for celiac disease, and their parents and
health care providers can monitor these children to detect the disease early,» said Beena Akolkar, Ph.D., project scientist for TEDDY at the NIH's National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and
Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).
Her

kidney disease, heart attack, stroke, blindness, and chronic infections that lead to foot amputation.
Researchers led
by Kathryn Wilson from Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public
Health, both in Boston, had combed through data from two longitudinal studies to identify 575 individuals who had gone on to develop
kidney cancer.
The findings are part of The Environmental Determinants of Diabetes in the Young (TEDDY) study, a large, multi-national study funded
by the National Institutes of
Health's National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and
Kidney Diseases.

by the World
Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer last February concluded that between a quarter and third of all colon, breast, endometrial,
kidney, and esophageal cancers globally may trace to excess weight, especially obesity.
The Phase 3 trial was funded
by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and
Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), both part of the National Institutes of
