I wash, I clean, I clear, I cook, walk to dog, buy the food, repair the house, I am a successful person in my own right (we have no money worries and never will have), I'm faithful, yet life is work or kids school work.

I certainly wasn't going to have any more kids, I owned my own house, I had my own career and dog and car (I ditched the minivan)-- I didn't «need» to be in a relationship in the same way as I believed I needed to be when I wanted to have a family with a partner.

We didn't have kids, but we were still a family, one that included parents, in - laws, siblings, nieces, grandparents, aunts, uncles and our dog.

Have more faith in your kids and their capacity to love YOU even if you love your dog more, as your post suggests.

Or i'm just a really awful mother who is apparently ok with my kid eating dog fur (because he does) and «helping» clean the littler box (thankfully, he'll grab a spoon from the kitchen to dig in the box, not bare hands.

Other than a the little partitian between play areas (instead that have over / under beams that I can't run and jump over gracefully in a hurry), they do have a lovely «death pond» and ever - so - inticing stream / creek leading up to it full of tree roots, dog poop and whatever else you don't want your kids to trip in and onto.
