When I was a
kid the whole family always
gathered at grandmothers house where we spent
holidays eating, laughing, enjoying each - others company.
You're
at a
holiday gathering in your neighborhood, and the parents, once again, are talking college — exchanging the vitals on where their
kids are applying, or where they've already gotten in.
Of course, I had met Ward
at family
holiday gatherings, but he was an adult, quiet, and didn't have much to do with the
kids.
That all said, during the
holidays I would rather spend time with each of my siblings rather than all
at once so maybe the thing to do would be to have a week of dinners with only one family coming
at a time... Or having them over on Saturday nights or Sunday afternoons in December so that we get to spend time with individuals and save the huge family
gatherings for summer when
kids can play out doors and adults can sit in the shade and sip lemonade (and smoke cigars, of course!).
At a family
gathering over the
holidays, my youngest grand
kid said she's going to enroll in the OREA Real Estate Course and she's saving up for it.
