When we were raising our young
kids at home, we would try to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary, just for the experience of it all — gingerbread house kits at Christmas, school projects on the
kitchen table, taco night with all the fixings prepped
in bowls.
My wife is always trying to get me more involved
in cooking (and general help
in the
kitchen) but I always seem to have something else going on — work,
kids, excuses, etc..

kids along for the journey of shopping (or better yet, picking - if you are fortunate enough to have a veggie garden) and being involved
in some
kitchen creations can be a real source of joy for little ones, and a great time to teach them about the origins of their food.
Green Smoothie bowls are a regular visitor to my breakfast table (who am I
kidding, there is no table

This is way too easy, and if you've got eager hands who love to help out

I enjoy slowing down
in the
kitchen because I love to cook and can focus on the process more with an extra set of grownup hands to help with the juggling of our 3

I very fondly remember going down to the
kitchen as a little
kid to see her working on her big flour - coated work table, scooping heaps of flour out of large plastic containers, and can almost still taste the gluten
in the air.
I've always loved to bake and craft, but I love it a whole lot more when my

Oh, and I bet all those snacks were put together without the benefit of screen time to distract

With a regular dinner you're rushing to get food done and on the table, maybe fumbling to try and find the recipe you need, all the while crazy

Now that my
kids are all grown and there's only one left at home, I feel like I have a lot more freedom
in the
kitchen.
They couldn't be any easier to make and they are a fun activity to get the
kids in the
kitchen if you trust them around a bowl of melted chocolate.
When I have
kids and then eventually train them to be my personal assistants
in the
kitchen... I will be requesting these crepes for my mother's day breakfast
in bed.
It's one of my favorite comfort foods and always takes me back to sitting
in her
kitchen as a
kid slurping down the savory pieces of pastry.
