We didn't have a family room when I was a
kid so unless you were in the
kitchen, your bedroom, the bathroom or the cellar, (yes, that's what we called it) all
activity happened in the parlor.
Lava lamps are a simple but great fun science

It's made by one of my good friends, Katie of
Kitchen Stewardship, and it's one of my favorite bonding
activities I've ever done with my
kids.
We love to do online classes together that teach a useful skill, like Udemy, with classes on everything from photography to playing the harmonica, or our favorite
kitchen activity, the
Kids Cook Real Food course.
I often make little breakfast pots the night before (the
kids love making their own too, good
activity while you are in the
kitchen cooking dinner and they need entertaining).
Either way,
kitchen scrap gardening is so much fun and certainly a great
activity to do with the
kids.
We all know that even in the beautiful summer months, there are still rainy or lazy days and with
kids home from school, crafty
kitchen projects can be great
activities to keep these lazy days from being crazy days.
The castle is also child friendly, by the
