Healthy foods continue to top the trends with healthful
kids meals coming in as one of the top three trends of 2017

come home and say, «Mom, I got all A's, can we go to McDonald's?

meals, I like to cook and I'd rather see
kids eating a
meal I just made rather than heating something up.
You do not want to discover that the youngest also gets to sleep in your marital bed,
meals are in front of the T.V. or the
kids can
come and go from the house without permission if you are dead set against such things.
Currently over 15 million American
kids live in households that are «food insecure,» that is, in which families don't always know where their next
meal is
coming from.
Cafeterias sell competitive foods not because SNA members are out to ruin
kids» health with snacks of questionable value, but because a $ 3 per free lunch payment from the government is not, in many cases, enough to cover the costs of putting that
meal on the table, and more revenue has to
come from somewhere.
Many
kids aren't adventurous eaters and have definite preferences when it
comes to
meal time.
I now have more time to spend making memories with my
kids instead of being stuck in the kitchen trying to
come up with
meals that they don't love.
Just think about it: if you were trying to balance a very tight budget in an operation which lives or dies based on how well students accept your food, and if many (sometimes, the vast majority) of those students
came from homes in which nutritionally balanced, home cooked
meals are far from the norm, and if the food industry was bombarding those
kids with almost $ 2 billion a year in advertising promoting junk food and fast food, and if you had no money of your own for nutrition education to even begin to counter those messages, and if some of those
kids also had the option of going off campus to a 7 - 11 or grabbing a donut and chips from a PTA fundraising table set up down the hall, wouldn't you, too, be at least a tiny bit tempted to ramp up the white flour pasta, pizza and fries and ditch the tasteless, low - sodium green beans?
While Chartwells promises super-nutritious
meals of cereal, fruit, milk and eggs, if their current lunch offerings are any indication of what's to
come,
kids will likely be eating sugar - coated, carbon - dated cereals and fruit cups, high fat - hormone riddled chocolate milk, and processed egg McMuffins.
We schedule recess before lunch in elementary school so that
kids are hungrier when they
come to their midday
meal.
