Yet, recent studies highlight that so - called green energy, such as wind energy, may come at environmental costs, for example when wind turbines

As someone who has a lot of respect for the animal kingdom, there is nothing about wind farms that makes my blood boil more than the hypocrisy
and double standard associated with the
killing of
birds and bats that these wind farms are allowed to get away with.
For example, it is estimated that wind turbines in the U.S.
kill up to 328,000
birds annually,
and, last year alone, wind turbines
killed 600,000
bats.
Post-operation, the numbers of
bat deaths
and bird kills far exceed what was expected from the wind turbines, noise complaints are being made more frequently as a result of more powerful turbines,
and wind power companies have abused their approvals by removing trees from protected woodlands, for example, or placing turbines on sites not consistent with the approvals.
On 2012/04/19 I discussed this research with Dr Cindy Hull, who has studied
bird and bat kills in relation to the Bluff Point
and Studland Bay wind farms.
I have little doubt that much of the «
bird killing,
bat mangling, fish destroying» accusations so often leveled against wind power — both offshore
and onshore — are largely based on ideological prejudice
and a blanket opposition to green energy.
