movie that figures it can let a serial
killer running loose in the community sort of simmer in the background, confident that the psychological drama it's got running up front is more interesting.
There's a potentially engaging jurisdictional triangle
at the heart of his story, but it's largely obscured by what amounts to mediocre amalgam of a basic, post-CSI procedural and a serial
killer B
movie, in which a devilish antagonist does things like phone the police to taunt them as he's snuffing his latest victim.
The Strangers: Prey
at Night A sequel to the nihilistic horror
movie, with a trio of
killers chasing a family bringing their daughter to boarding school.
This new Liam Neeson - on - a-tear
movie from writer - turned - director Scott Frank (The Lookout) has the virtue of
at least being a tad original, story-wise, and despite the truly horrific and disgusting nature of the crimes on display, it (mostly) kept me from looking
at my watch for its duration (then again, I may be serial
killer).
I'm fond of a funny, understated scene in which the
killer is locked in, and unceremoniously escapes from, a walk - in freezer, and there's a very nice moment
at the climax involving a hunter's bow - and - arrow that would work equally well in a Shaw Brothers martial - arts
movie.
It's a lovely portrait of male friendship; considering «Shaun of the Dead» and «The World's End» so frequently put Frost and Pegg
at odds, it's nice to see their characters so thoroughly on the same team and enjoying one another's company, delighting in their
killer cop
movie one - liners and the intense action that invariably breaks out near the film's climax.
So, given that the only people who would have any interest
at all in this
movie would be gamers - and maybe anyone with a lust for bald - headed bar - coded
killers - the $ 100 million box - office bucks surely has to be seen as a more than satisfactory return.
The
Killer is still a big flashy John Woo action
movie, but the story is simpler, there's less action, and there's more work in developing
at least Chow's character.
Or make that: we seldom manage to outguess
movies that play fair (like Sixth Sense, The Crying Game, the original 1960s Planet of the Apes) instead of cheat — usually the «brain in the vat» type of story such as Fight Club, Vanilla Sky and Identity — that thing about the serial
killer at the abandoned motel during a rainy night starring John Cusack.
Although the
movie stops
at the book's two - thirds mark, the abrupt ending is a
killer.
At the rehab facility he finds himself badgered by Sybil (Nina Arianda), a nut - case society woman who believes her husband molested their daughter and wants Simon to kill him because she once saw Simon play a

James Franco Won't Be Patrick Bateman for Kanye West — Though Scott Disick will be reprising the role of the financier - turned - serial
killer in an upcoming music video for Kanye West, which will adapt the «Huey Lewis» monologue that Christian Bale made famous in the
