kindergarten through second grade drew criticism from the presidents of both the city
teachers union and the principals union.

That means not all
kindergarten through second grade classes at the school have
teacher assistants.
There are a number of measures states are already planning to include in their accountability systems — such as chronic absenteeism, English language proficiency,
teacher absenteeism, student discipline, school climate, etc. — that could easily include students in
kindergarten through second grade.
New York City officials on Thursday said suspension shouldn't be used as a disciplinary measure for children in
kindergarten through second grade, a proposal that drew criticism from the
teachers union, which said it would lead to increased classroom disruption.

teachers appear to spend less time developing the higher - order thinking skills that are critical for school success, despite the high expectations outlined in state education standards.
