The future with an enforced «everybody
selling at our selected price» future means Amazon and B&N

Kindles and Nooks because the book lovers are going to see the discounted HC at $ 18 and compare that to an
eBook at $ 15 (plus cost of device) and deem it not worth buying a Kindle or Nook edition with its limitations.

In an effort to counter the Amazon juggernaut of
eBooks, those independent bookstores have decided that Google is the best way to
sell eBooks that can be read on
Kindles, iPads, Nooks, etc..
That said, I would be surprised if they supported epub because 1) they aren't really inclined to make it easier to use other
ebook formats, since they
sell kindles to get people to buy books from them in
kindle format and 2) mobi is only really supported because the
kindle format is based off it.
Amazon doesn't have to do a single thing and the current
Kindles will still remain the best
selling ebook readers through 2016.
But I don't believe that Amazon can truly
sell ebooks as a loss - leader forever; I'm of the belief that Amazon
sells its cheaper e-ink

ebook reader out there, and based on how often they

Kindles, Amazon will
sell as many of these as they can make.

ebooks are a marketing device for Amazon to
sell more
Kindles.
