Perhaps one
of the reasons for the success and unique appearance
of Thomsen's work is that she is not coming out
of an Anglo - American point
of view as in «
Color Field» abstraction — the term that displaced Clement Greenberg's more complex notion
of «Post-Painterly Abstraction» — but from an education in Germany that allowed her to evolve in a more qualified direction, as opposed to the
kind of fashionable quantifications to which American higher art education has finally succumbed.
