One
of the structural changes we made to the space was removing and reinstalling the
window on the far
side of the
kitchen.
There is only the one small
kitchen window on the back
side of the house to let light into our main living areas, so adding the French door at the back completely changes the space.
The

Love the idea
of all the
windows in your
kitchen... if you have lots
of cabinet space on the other
side, I'd go for it in a heart beat!

The two main reasons we felt moving the sink to that
side of the
kitchen wouldn't work were 1) we thought the
window was too low for a counter (we've confirmed it isn't too low at all, it was just an optical illusion) 2) once we realized the
window wasn't actually too low, we didn't like that in order to have a view
of the backyard, the sink would be squished to one
side of the
kitchen and off center in the space.
We enlarged our
kitchen and just have the informal eating space with nearly floor to ceiling
windows on 3
sides of a large round table.
Our current
kitchen is tucked into the small back corner
of the house, with the sink below a small
window overlooking our neighbor's new house and our
side - yard, which is currently getting a fun makeover
of its own (see that project here).
My hubs is 61 — I am 58 and we still go strong on DIY — and we still make boo - boos — last year, we were redoing (or should I say the hubs was redoing) the floor tile in our 2nd bathroom — the crazy nut tiled himself into the tub — I was in the
kitchen painting the texture he had just a couple
of days before put on the walls (had wallpaper on it before) and I hear this feeble «Honey, can you go outside on the
side of the house and get that tile from the ground under the
window»... I went into the bathroom, saw him standing in the tub, and he explained that he got mad and threw the tile out the open
window.
2) My
window washers found the faucet height got in the way
of removing my
kitchen window to wash the exterior
side of it.
Instead
of removing the
window on the left
side of the
kitchen we decided to keep it so we could have the natural light and added a
window seat with storage below.
Nearly wall - to - wall
windows on one
side of this
kitchen provide lots
of natural light but posed a challenge for cabinet space.
Instead
of filling the
kitchen's end and
side walls with upper cabinetry, the couple installed a series
of double - hung
windows.
Everything is purchased for the «
window side»
of the
kitchen except for the pendant light (I'm still trying to figure that one out), and the legs for the desk.
I still need to commit to the fabric for the roman shades I will get made for the
windows in my
kitchen which is why you haven't seen this
side of the room yet.
