In older homes they have small rooms and no open concept between the dining and kitchen... and they are usually bearing walls..

What if you were to widen the kitchen doorway all the way to the exterior wall and (incorporating support structure at that point) spanned the built - in between the dining room window and the kitchen window?

I don't know what you've done in this room, since this was first posted, but I agree with removing as much wall as possible between the dining room & kitchen would really open it up.

If you aren't a fan of the doorbell chimes (I think they're kind of cool), what about putting bookshelves on that wall of the dining room (instead of / in addition to the kitchen wall) so you can conceal the chimes at the back of a section?

The new arched doorways will also help keep the «messy» areas of cooking in a small kitchen less in view from the dining room and living room than if we removed the walls entirely.

I used sw Alabaster for my walls in living room, dining room, kitchen and hallways.

We didn't have enough room in the kitchen remodel to make the opening bigger or to remove the wall entirely, but the soft curve changed everything both from the kitchen side and the dining room side!

Back in the summer we removed the wall between our kitchen and dining room and I too was amazed by how much dust I kept finding weeks after but as you say it's all worth it.

We tore out some walls in between the kitchen and dining room and living room.

At the moment the small kitchen and dining room are separate that is where the builders come in, knocking down the wall in between.
