Making art is an opportunity for parents to reflect on what
they know about childbirth, and what they need and want; it initiates discussion and prompts questions that lead parents to acknowledge the life they will lead after the birth.
As you approach labor and delivery, you will be trying to put together everything
you know about childbirth and wondering how it will be for you.

Honey B., in her post Childbirth: Hollywood's Take, wrote that after year of watching A Baby Story, 18 Kids and Counting, Knocked Up, Four Christmases, etc., she realized how much of what she thought
she knew about childbirth was based on TV.
It requires a wealth of information to compensate for what we have not learned all our lives — there is a real gap in what women grow up
knowing about childbirth.
I asked her what
she knew about childbirth and she said, «Oh you know, I was at my sister's 8 births!!!!» Ha.

about, you

childbirth and motherhood and the dad's just in the background nodding his head, so to hear them open up like that was slightly surreal but absolutely fantastic.

Contractions during
childbirth are what is best
known about labor.
Before taking a class, it helps to
know a little
about childbirth.
The class is part of the
childbirth series; new parents
know that learning
about breastfeeding is important.
In the 19th and first half of the 20th century, everybody
knew about death in
childbirth, particularly those women who were
about to go through the process.
Glorious, awful, unexpected, amazing — however it happened, most mums I
know could chat
about childbirth for hours (it's all we used to talk
about in baby groups).
They
know that their professional reputations lead most people to believe that they and their organizations are fringe groups that publicize ridiculous ideas
about childbirth.
As far as I can tell, the only reason is because you are incredibly gullible and
know very little
about childbirth, but feel free to offer valid a reason that doesn't make you look so easily manipulated.
At this point, you may have taken a pregnancy and
childbirth class, but this is the perfect time to educate yourself and make decisions
about whether you
know enough
about baby care, breastfeeding, labor, pain management techniques during labor and infant CPR.
I remain a calm, confident presence for the duration of labor, and I
know all of the things that you learned in your
childbirth class so you don't have to worry
about remembering everything.
Moms
know a lot more
about childbirth and pregnancy than they did just a few decades ago.

So, think through interviewing a doula or consider whether you
know someone who is especially knowledgeable
about childbirth.
No matter what your goals are for your birth and postpartum period, having a thorough understanding of
childbirth will help you feel more informed
about everything that is going to take place when your baby (or babies!)
And there are very few first - time expectant parents today who
know much
about childbirth.
So it just boggles my mind that a lay person who
knows next to nothing
about childbirth thinks she can hire herself out as a midwife, risk the lives of her clients and their infants and then dust off her hands and say «oh well» when something like this happens.

The people who
know the most
about childbirth are obstetricians.
Or, for instance, to
know how knowledgeable or ignorant you are
about childbirth, you have to have a good working knowledge of modern obstetrics including both normal and abnormal
childbirth.
That doesn't mean that they
know everything, or that they are always right, but it does mean that they have a strong foundation from which to assess claims
about childbirth.
If you're a nurse, doula, midwife,
childbirth educator or even just a new parent who wants to
know everything
about babywearing, I highly suggest becoming a babywearing educator!
We must not be deterred from learning as much as we can
about our rights and our options in
childbirth,
no matter how much it may inconvenience midwives or doctors.

I talked to Adelaide G. Nardone, M.D., an OB - GYN in New York City, a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and an instructor at Fordham University,
about the most common body changes her patients say they wish they'd

childbirth.
Whilst much is
known about the clinical management of labour and
childbirth less attention is paid to what, beyond clinical interventions, needs to be done to make women feel safe, comfortable and positive
about the experience.
Rosie Dodd, campaigns director at the National
Childbirth Trust, said: «This finding highlights the many factors that are in breast milk that we
know so little
about and that all have different advantages, such as helping a baby's immune system to develop.»
Good dads
know that when it comes to pregnancy and
childbirth, it's not
about them.
Doulas can be your best friend, they can help you achieve your personal goals for birth and parenting, and can alleviate the stress from fathers during
childbirth, as well as the mother's stress since she'll
no doubt be worried
about her partner.
If there is one thing to
know about pregnancy and
childbirth, it is that nothing is a smooth road.
Of course, you
know the answer, but what you're really worried
about is the pain of
childbirth.

We read two books, one book called «Unassisted
Childbirth» by Laura Shamley which she kind of like guru on the topic, and then there is another book called «Emergency
Childbirth», just forgot the author but, it's really short, it's like what they give paramedics learn
about delivering a baby you
know and this thing like when things go wrong and what to do.
Many of the
childbirth prep books I read at least had a chapter
about creating a birth plan though so I don't
know if a whole book devoted to it is really necessary.
No doubt, you've got a friend or sister who's all
about one particular brand of
childbirth or maybe you're thinking an epidural starting
about now is a good plan.
Ten years ago, researchers used data from the Listening to Women survey to examine associations between
childbirth education and knowledge
about childbirth interventions.3 The results were disappointing, women who attended
childbirth education were
no more likely to have knowledge of the risks of interventions than women who did not take classes.
