When
Kurimanzutto opened in Mexico City in 1999, Mónica Manzutto and her husband, José Kuri, along with the
artist Gabriel Orozco, wanted to create something different from an ordinary commercial gallery.

Moving to New York, she added, «will bring us back to the fundamentals of
Kurimanzutto when it first opened in Mexico City, where we'll look for spaces around the city according to the
artists» ideas and projects.»
He came up with the concept for
Kurimanzutto's inaugural show in 1999: a dozen
artists taking over two stalls in the Mercado Medellín in Roma to sell artworks made with materials found in the market itself.
This spring,
Kurimanzutto gallery hosted an exhibition of British
artist Sarah Lucas's bodily assemblages made of mostly nylon pantyhose and cotton stuffing contorted and placed on pedestals of stacked adobe bricks, all sourced in Mexico.
Kurimanzutto's Kabinett will feature a salon - style hanging of paper collages by South Korean
artist Haegue Yang (b. 1971), which will be displayed against a backdrop of «Grid Bloc A3», a publication that Yang created in collaboration with illustrator Jeong Hwa Min in 2013.

kurimanzutto was founded in 1999 in Mexico City by Mónica Manzutto, José Kuri, and a group of 13
artists including Gabriel Orozco.

artists and adapt to the varied and experimental projects it undertook.

kurimanzutto has evolved as a forum for institutional exhibitions and international representation, while maintaining its profoundly collaborative approach with
artists.
In gallery news: David Zwirner now represents the Joan Mitchell Foundation, with an exhibition planned for next year in the gallery's New York space — «The gallery is proud to be entrusted to help with the extraordinary legacy of Joan Mitchell, one of the most important and original American painters to emerge in the second half of the twentieth century», Zwirner commented; Lehmann Maupin have announced representation of the Estate of Heidi Bucher — «Her exploration of spaces — often designated as feminine, particularly domestic environments and objects — is very much in line with Lehmann Maupin's programming and closely ties into the work of
