birth in the supine position may have been adopted to make it
more convenient for midwives
and obstetricians to assist the
labour and birth.
The guidelines include interventions provided to the mother — for example steroid injections before
birth, antibiotics when her water breaks before the onset of
labour,
and magnesium sulfate to prevent future neurological impairment of the child, as well as interventions for the newborn baby — for example thermal care, feeding support, (e.g. kangaroo mother care, when babies are stable), safe oxygen use,
and other treatments to help babies breathe
more easily.

labour and birth outcomes.
A randomised control trial conducted in BC [30] found home visits in early
labour to be
more effective than telephone triage in reducing the number of women attending the hospital for assessment before they are in
labour and those attending before 3 cm cervical dilation, although the home visits had no impact on CS rates or
birth outcomes.
A systematic review of 22 studies [40] found women who had continuous support in
labour (either from a nurse, midwife, doula, childbirth educator, family member, partner, or stranger) were
more likely to have a spontaneous vaginal
birth, a shorter

Women who feel
more in control in the reading I have done relate it to things like ambulatory ability, acceptability of vocalising their pain, social control (i.e. who is present at the
birth), environmental control
and comfort — leading them to feel
more mentally able to cope with
labour and being
more in control of themselves which is often highlighted as a definer of a good
birth experience.
In such a case, would it not be better to allow gravity, i.e; the
birth mother standing
and moving whilst in
labour, to take charge rather than the birthing mother instead lying on her back in an ambulance
and then hospital along with the accompanying substantial increase in stress levels?I suppose all I am trying to say is that IF my partner
and I were to have a second baby, I really would like to support my partner once
more in having a home
birth.

more likely to have a longer delivery (second stage of
labour), needed their
labour contractions stimulated with oxytocin, experienced very low blood pressure, were unable to move for a period of time after the
