Australia is set to print
its labour market numbers for the month of April.
With investors remaining focused clearly on offshore central bank developments as well
labour market numbers from the US, Greenback direction will be the major driver behind broader NZD / USD moves through to weeks in end.
Not exact matches
But even providing good jobs for all these potential workers wouldn't solve the
labour market's problems, because the workforce is shrinking: the
number of millennials poised to enter the
labour pool is lower than the
number of baby boomers set to retire.
The Conference Board report identifies a
number of possible
labour market imperfections such as workers lacking the information they need to make informed decisions.
While there have been improvements in some
labour market indicators, the
number of people who have been unemployed for over a year has remained frustratingly high since the end of the recession, as shown in the graph below.
Western Australia's unemployment rate has fallen by a surprising 0.9 per cent in the month of December, while job

The recent improvement in start - up activity despite a relatively healthy

number of new entrepreneurs chose self - employment as a career rather than being forced to open a business due to a lack of other employment opportunities.
In fact, it is thinking of lowering the 6.5 % threshold for a short - term rate hike because it believes the headline
number still gives too optimistic a picture of the situation in the

And although inflation can be measured easily enough, central banks now rely nearly as much on estimates of

market «slack», an impossibly hazy
number.
Looking at the bigger picture, however, the latest
numbers said the
labour market expanded 2.1 per cent compared to a year earlier with the addition of 374,300 net new jobs.
Van Loan and Flaherty didn't mention the employment rate, which many economists believe is a better indicator of the health of the
labour market than simply the
number of jobs created.
In their 2015 election platform, the Trudeau Liberals identified a
number of items related to Employment Insurance (EI) that they would change: reversing the Harper EI reforms defining «suitable work»; reducing the waiting period for EI benefits; reducing EI premiums; introducing more flexible parental leave; providing better access to compassionate care; and increasing funding for employment and training programs managed by provinces, territories and Aboriginal
labour market organizations.
Finally, the Speech from the Throne stated that the Government would «work with provinces and territories» in a
number of areas, including credential recognition,
labour market mobility, removal of trade barriers, among others.
While the increase will have a positive impact on the province's total
labour market income — hiking it by 1.3 per cent — it will also result in the job losses over a
number of years.
There are three very important
labour market releases out this morning: both Canada and the U.S. published their November employment
numbers, and Statistics Canada also released the
labour productivity growth figures for the July - September period.
The general flexibility in the
labour market, including the ability of firms and employees to adjust hours of work, limited the rise in
numbers unemployed.
Certain changes in the
labour market also played a role in helping to increase the
number of people ineligible for EI.
Along with the pick - up in activity, there are tentative signs that conditions are improving in
labour markets across the region, with the unemployment rate declining slightly in a
number of countries.

There are some predictable lines: the Tories are still failing on immigration; government is missing its own target; the Bill won't tackle biggest problems; «illegal immigration» is up and deportation
numbers down; The Bill does nothing about exploitation in the
labour market.
Figures released by the ONS just last week, showed a sharp increase in the
number of people with long term illnesses and disabilities dropping out of the
labour market altogether.
The
number of people in part - time work has also hit an all time high due to the scarcity of full time jobs in the
labour market.

Parental leave policies were developed in response to increasing
numbers of women participating in the
labour market and out of concern for the health and well - being of both mother and infant.
And when we look at the age group of existing licensees and the increase in the
number of women in the business, we shouldn't be surprised by attrition due to retirement and parental leave — challenges faced by every segment of the
labour market.
