the language around our exercise and choosing to focus on its positive health and wellness benefits rather than the outcome in pounds or inches invites us to be gentle with ourselves and less competitive.

So while 10,000 steps is fun and easy to remember and a catchy marketing tool in (at least) two
languages, maybe it's time, given just how unhealthy so many people are and how much they'd benefit from moving
around just a little more, to embrace an incremental - improvement approach to
exercise.
So while parents and caregivers should support and nurture these systems through fun, pre-reading
exercises such as making up rhymes, singing, and playing with
language, they shouldn't feel that it is a reflection of their caregiving skills if their child hasn't mastered learning to read independently by the time the fifth birthday party rolls
around.
