Figure 6 of Houston 2011 indeed indicates such
error bands (but even more importantly, it shows high frequency noise which is almost an order of magnitude
larger).
This is what CRU does not advertise, because it blows away the Hockey Stick chart and replaces it with a tube of
large unknowns with an
error band of + / - 3 ° C or more.
My current reading is that the
error bands are
larger than the claimed signals, and so any one of several causes for climate change could be predominant.
Even apart from the cherry picking issue, it is likely that these
error bands do not take the spatial correlations into account, which, with the much
larger number of proxies, are more severe than in Loehle and McC.
