Most talk of algae and renewable energy on TreeHugger involves liquid biofuels, but a new plan being put forth in Venice hopes to use algae to generate electricity and allow the city take one
large step towards being entirely off fossil fuels: The idea is to take two kinds of algae which are
brought in attached to ships, Sargassum muticum and Undaria pinnafitida, and use it in a new 40 MW
power plant.
Now we find ourselves celebrating an agreement where the world's
largest carbon emitter, China, is permitted to increase their emissions until 2025 and to continue
bringing a coal - fired
power plant online every 10 days.
Developing countries need
large plants capable of
bringing large amounts of new
power to their fast - growing economies.
And so it does mean that overall, we use less energy and that's
bringing up this fascinating situation a very
large power plant like Diablo Canyon that's running just fine economic.
