Also called the
lymphatic system, it is comprised of
lymphatic vessels that run throughout the body (with the
largest vessel being the thoracic duct, which collects a
large portion of the body's lymph); lymph nodes, located in the neck, armpit, groin, and inside the center of the chest and abdomen; the tonsils and adenoids, which are collections of lymphoid tissue similar to lymph nodes; and the spleen and thymus, which are lymphoid organs.
Some of the organs in these systems are the oral cavity, esophagus, stomach, small intestine,
large intestine (colon), liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra, nasal cavity, trachea, bronchi, lungs, uterus, ovaries, prostate, vulva, prepuce, thyroid gland, adrenal gland, parathyroid gland, pituitary gland, lymph nodes, and
lymphatic vessels.
Lymphatic vessels are a network of capillaries, ducts and
larger vessels that drain lymph (a fluid containing proteins, other chemicals and cells such as macrophages and lymphocytes) from body tissues.
