2007.Mother - child attachment in
later middle childhood: assessment approaches and associations with mood and emotion regulation.
Given the relatively young ages of children at follow - up assessment, longer term evaluations of these cohorts will be important to see if these findings remain as children enter the more behaviourally challenging
late middle childhood and adolescent years when emotional and behavioural problems often become more pronounced.
Besides the fundamental notion that children maintain separate representations of attachment to mother and father in the first years of life (Belsky and Rovine 1988), it has been argued that relationship - specific representations merge into a unitary pattern by
late middle childhood (Dykas et al. 2006), as executive functioning becomes more efficient, allowing better voluntary control of attentional processes, and sophisticated appraisal skills that enable children to integrate multiple and different representations into more abstract models (Zimmermann and Iwanski 2015).

ABSTRACT: In the present study we examined 1) whether
childhood disruptive behaviour, in terms of aggressiveness, hyper - activity and social adjustment, predicts school performance since toddler age or whether becomes it relevant first since
middle or
late childhood, 2) whether gender differences within the associations between school perform - ance and disruptive behaviour exist, and 3) whether there are trait specific effects in these associations, i.e. whether hyperactivity is more relevant determinant for
later school success than aggression and social adjust - ment.

Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study looked at over 17000 middle class, middle - aged Americans (average age in the 50s) and found dose - dependent associations between the number of adverse childhood experiences (see Table 1) and a wide array of outcomes, including markers for social functioning, sexual health, mental health, risk factors for common diseases, and prevalent diseases (see Table 2).4, 6 The retrospective ACE Study and several smaller but prospective studies indicate that adverse experiences in childhood influence behavior, mental wellness, and physical health decades later.
