Fonterra has revealed that
prices were down sharply at its
latest auction, as concerns about supply, which had
fueled recent
price increases, eased.
The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers, Ghana (COPEC), has raised concern with the
latest increase in
fuel prices despite the National Petroleum Authority's (NPA) assurances that
prices would remain fairly stable for the month of January.
China and Japan are the largest markets, and the
price has shot up from $ 45 a pound in the
late 1990s to $ 90 in 2004 and up to $ 385 in March 2007,
fueling a concurrent
increase in poaching.
