You've accidentally used a detergent with fabric softener, fragrance, optical brighteners, or
soap (such as Fels - Naptha in homemade
laundry soap concoctions) and your diapers have
residue lingering in the fibers.
I've always used dish
soap and water, but I recently had to clean up some really stubborn pitch
residue on some tools and was blown away how well liquid
laundry detergent cut slightly with water worked.
