better business partners to the rest of their
people in their companies.
Instead I'd argue — view and compensate the «sales
people» (for lack of a
better way to put it) as sophisticated practitioners akin to hybrid
lawyers /

You and I sit in the middle of the largest community of small firm
lawyers in the world where, in theory, we are in touch everyday with thousands of
lawyers around the country and yet, maybe at our
business model failing, I don't have a
good system for knowing a
person in every practice area and every jurisdiction, so I'm regularly stumped when
people ask me for referrals.
You'll be a
better business person for it, and maybe even a
better lawyer for it.
If law societies regulated fees, I suggest it would have two effects (1) increase both the availability of legal services to the poor generally, and the size of the pool of potential clients who could seriously even consider retaining a
lawyer, and (2) in the long term, change the character of the legal professional (as a collection of individuals) for the
better by making the practice of law more like social work, rather than drawing in the sorts of
people who's skills are
better employed in such fields as sales and
business entrepreneurship.

Another example of that would be maybe something like what's the
best business form for a new startup and lots of
lawyers websites have that in text, like they have an article about it, but I'm thinking maybe you could actually start someone on the process of answering the questions that you'd ask at your first meeting with them through your website so that the bar is lower to get them in the door because that's kind of what this is all about, is making it easier for
people to have that first meeting with you because they're not actually meeting with you.

Well, a lot of our
business is expungement, which are
people that have been out of jail, have been out of trouble for five to 10 plus years and so that doesn't apply to that but then as far as like DUIs, there will be some
people that do call
lawyers that night, you are provided time to call a
lawyer when you are arrested for DUI but then there are a lot of
people that they bond out the next morning and they're depressed and they're sitting on their couch and they're trying to research things online and that's when the marketing happens, that's when the connection happens, and the client contacts you.
The number of
people and
businesses that can make legal wills, incorporate, put agreements in writing and work with
good lawyers will go up as we make it easier for them.
When you say our
business, I don't wan na separate the
business of law from the legal work that we do, because what it is about and one of the points that I was trying to make in that I think
people sometimes gloss over or miss is that it's about quality of work and it's about becoming
better lawyers.
With so many bona fide
lawyers struggling to obtain a job or attract clients, it's hard to believe that some
people not only manage to impersonate real
lawyers, but find real
business and jobs as
well.
