I take a
small cross-body bag (inside a
small, collapsible tote on the plane), a raincoat, black pencil skirt, black dressier pants, a second pair of pants (somewhat more casual / sturdy but NOT jeans), black cardigan sweater
jacket, black turtleneck, two dressy tops, two somewhat causal tops, base
layer (unless summer), undies, sleepwear and robe, two pairs of shoes, flip flops, scarves, and some inexpensive jewelry.
Admittedly, all the
layers create a problem when I'm indoors because then I'm sweating, but I think it's a
small price to pay for looking cute and avoiding puffer
jackets.

In another words, you should
layer your body with the
smallest print on your shirt, working bigger as you move to outer garments like ties and
jackets.
I'm normally a
small - medium, so I ordered a large — and I wouldn't want it any
smaller, especially when I have
layers on underneath the
jacket and / or have the zip - in liner on.
Pack lots of
layers such as thermal underwear, merino wool long - sleeve tops, and ultralight down
jackets, which are warm but pack down into an amazingly
small package.
