Miliband, who introduced
the leadership election process that helped Corbyn sweep to power last September, and whom some MPs blamed for dragging the party to the left, had previously supported Corbyn.
The influence of the unions has been diminished in
the leadership election process as well (although they are still powerful in the NEC) and their only real power now lies in the influence that their nomination of a candidate has on the votes of their members.
But speaking to the BBC, Mr Corbyn insisted that
the leadership election process was «very democratic» and was drawing the attention of a large number of former Labour supporters and young people.
