of teachers taking on

Much has changed in recent times and the
role and influence
of school
leadership has
increased as our schools and school leaders have started to take up the
responsibility for school improvement not just in their own schools, but right across the system.
Because parental involvement is linked to student achievement by correlation, we assert that teachers and principals can play a
role in
increasing student learning by creating a culture
of shared
leadership and
responsibility — not merely among school staff members, but collectively within the wider community.
Multiple studies have demonstrated that organizations that prioritize a performance - management system that supports employees» professional growth outperform organizations that do not.25 Similar to all professionals, teachers need feedback and opportunities to develop and refine their practices.26 As their expertise
increases, excellent teachers want to take on additional
responsibilities and assume
leadership roles within their schools.27 Unfortunately, few educators currently receive these kinds
of opportunities for professional learning and growth.28 For example, well - developed, sustained professional learning communities, or PLCs, can serve as powerful levers to improve teaching practice and
increase student achievement.29 When implemented poorly, however, PLCs result in little to no positive change in school performance.30
The concentration
of client relationship
responsibility and
leadership positions within baby boomers will continue for years to come, and the march
of time will exponentially
increase the need for actions with respect to a) client relationships that need to be transitioned to younger Partners, b)
leadership / ownership
roles that needs to be transitioned to younger Partners, c) brain - drains / departing areas
of unique expertise that need to be filled, and d) the realization that the coming generations do not share the same outlooks toward the profession as the baby boomer generation.
While senior candidates can expect an uplift should their
role change in scope, whether by the inclusion
of greater
leadership or regional
responsibilities, there has been little evidence
of anything other than incremental
increases at the senior end
of the market.
Indicating
leadership skills — effective communication, active listening, quick thinking, sound judgment, etc. — will better your chances
of being hired, and exercising these skills in your position (even if it's not a
leadership role) can lead to
increased responsibilities and even promotions.
