-- Excerpt: Nitrous oxide is nearly 300 times as potent as carbon dioxide — considered
the leading cause of climate change — and the third most threatening greenhouse gas overall.
Yet although eating flesh and animal secretions is another unhealthy habit as well as
a leading cause of climate change, it has so far escaped being taxed.

Researchers found that human -

of the increase in drying out
of Western forests, a major factor in wildfires, and has

«A full reading
of Bernstein's email reveals an important point ---- his assertion that, in the 1980s, we never denied the possible role
of human activity as a
cause for
climate change, and he further makes clear that, at that point in time, there was a great deal
of uncertainty and lack
of understanding
of climate change, even among
leading scientists and experts,» said Keil, adding that today, Exxon «believes the risk
of climate change is clear, and warrants action.»
«Given that the
leading cause of power outages is extreme weather — which is exacerbated by
climate change — the Trump administration's head - in - the - sand approach would actually undermine grid resiliency and reliability while promoting

Since the algal species is native to eastern Canada, its recent blooms and rapid proliferation in rivers since 2006 — which have angered anglers looking for pristine waters — have been
caused by an environmental trigger, with
climate change a likely culprit, said Michelle Lavery, a master's degree student at the Canadian Rivers Institute and
lead author
of the research, published in theCanadian Journal
of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences.
Soot is a strong, light - absorbing aerosol that

of dinosaurs, ammonites, and other animals, and

The researchers suggest the

climate, which reduces tree growth and may
lead to a thinner layer

«Environment Magazine is pleased to publish an updated and detailed paper,
led by the distinguished sociologist Riley Dunlap, on the increasing partisan polarization
of American attitudes to
climate change, its
causes, and consequences.
The September report raised the probability that human actions,
led by the use
of fossil fuels, are the main
cause of climate change since 1950 to at least 95 percent from 90.
His discoveries have also revealed how warming ocean temperatures and acidification
of ocean water
caused by
climate change lead to coral bleaching and death.
The study,
led by Dr Julie Jones from the University
of Sheffield's Department
of Geography, has revealed that limited data on Antarctica's
climate is making it difficult for researchers to disentangle
changes caused by human activity from natural
climate fluctuations.
Climate change is the
leading cause of coral - reef degradation.
Fifty years later, the reality
of human -
caused climate change has been reaffirmed by virtually every
leading scientific organization as well as the vast majority
of individual
climate scientists worldwide.
«Finding the thresholds in plant physiology after which
climate stress

of forest ecosystems in a
changing climate,» said
lead author Anderegg.
Moreover, we found that when respondents» perception
of the level
of scientific agreement increased, this
led to significant
changes in other key beliefs about the issue, such as the belief that
climate change is happening, human -
caused and a worrisome problem.
Asteroid impacts that
cause global catastrophe are

of the resulting fatalities would be due to that

cause social disruption that is expected to
lead to starvation, disease and violence).
«The study participants were deeply divided along partisan lines, with about 50 % saying they do believe in human -

of law and
of psychology at Yale Law School and the
lead researcher on the study.
Emissions from wildfires totalled more than 1bn tonnes
of CO2 from 2003 - 2015, the
lead author tells Carbon Brief, and
climate change, along with forest fragmentation, could
cause a further increase in the number
of forest fires in the coming decades.
For example, the extreme drought that gripped Indonesia during summer and fall (
leading to an intense wildfire season) was
caused by a dearth
of rainfall linked to El Niño and higher temperatures linked to
climate change, one study in the report found.
We know, based on the work and expertise
of the vast majority
of climate scientists and virtually every
leading scientific organization in the world, that human -
caused climate change is real and dangerous.
«
Climate change, as well as human -
caused deforestation and biomass burning, can
lead to ecological and climatic tipping points that could release massive pools
of stored carbon,» said Scot Martin, the Gordon McKay Professor
of Environmental Science and Engineering at the Harvard John A. Paulson School
of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) and Professor
of Earth and Planetary Sciences in the Department
of Earth and Planetary Sciences.
For example, a growing scarcity
of fossil fuels and the need to stem the environmental damages
caused by
climate change will undoubtedly
lead to a substantial increase in the use
of public transportation.
As for the main threats to wildlife,
leading biologists and environmental watchdogs agree: human -
led activities — including
climate change, habitat destruction, and development — are far and away the number one
cause of wildlife depletion.
My take is that the tug
of war over what's
causing today's telegenic heat waves, floods, tempests — and even Arctic sea - ice retreats — distracts from the high confidence scientists have in the long - term (but less sexy) picture: that more CO2 will
lead to centuries
of climate and coastal
changes with big consequences for a growing human population (for better and worse in the short run, and likely mostly for the worse in the long run).

The brochure for the workshop states: «
Climate change caused by fossil fuel burning
leads to increased risks
of extreme events such as heat waves, droughts, fires, severe storms, floods which in turn have major health effects.»
Maybe it is frustration with that experience which has
led Schmidt to the conclusion that the
causes of conflict in the
climate change debate relate almost entirely to politics and not the MWP,
climate sensitivity or «ice», dismissing this from any discussion did not seem likely to be to help foster any reconciliation.
Likewise, when
climate sensitivity is low, emissions drive less temperature
change and
cause less damage,
leading to lower estimates
of the SCC.
«Our findings prove that there is a strong scientific agreement about the
cause of climate change, despite public perceptions to the contrary,»
lead author John Cook with the University
of Queensland said.
States are not equal in the international system and international law is frequently used by the North to discipline the South — in the specific case
of the UNFCCC it's pretty easy to imagine that «non compliance» by a Southern country would
lead to them being excluded from the finance and technology transfer that the North owes them for their
climate debt... so why should those who have not
caused climate change sign up to a scheme where the polluters always get off scot - free but they may have to pay a price?

In June 2016, a partnership

leading nonpartisan scientific associations sent a consensus letter to U.S. policymakers that reaffirmed the reality
of human -

This negligence

of Riau Province who have been affected by the impacts

What's lost in a lot
of the discussion about human -
caused climate change is not that the sum
of human activities is
leading to some warming
of the earth's temperature, but that the observed rate
of warming (both at the earth's surface and throughout the lower atmosphere) is considerably less than has been anticipated by the collection
of climate models upon whose projections
climate alarm (i.e., justification for strict restrictions on the use
of fossil fuels) is built.

Just this May the United States Academy

While recent headlines about the woes

led efforts to assemble a comprehensive picture
of the science have
caused gleeful headlines on The Drudge Report and other skeptical media outlets, the vast weight
of the evidence — from melting glaciers to warming oceans to satellite temperature readings, and much more — still points to a

Here is what one study (co-authored by Kim Cobb, Dr. Curry's colleague at Georgia Tech) says: «
Climate change is now the

of coral populations.»
Cook is the bête noire
of denialists, being the

of peer reviewed studies on
climate change agreed that it was mostly

We don't get any closer to science by denying the significant possibility that we are
causing significantly adverse
changes in
climate than we do by the ridiculous assertion that we understand the chaotic complexity
of climate well enough to say with certainty how many parts per millions
of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will
lead to how many degrees

According to Dr. James Hansen (formerly
