Because young children's
learning — for example, the acquisition of new vocabulary and the meanings behind those
words — occurs in the context of reciprocal relationships with adults and caregivers, it is difficult to tease apart children's cognitive, social, and
emotional development during these years.
So how can it be that annually, humans spend hundreds of dollars trying to
learn how to communicate with a significant other... and yet without
words, we share one of the strongest
emotional bonds known to man with a species that doesn't even talk like us?
