The education secretary told delegates at the SCHOOLS NorthEast summit in Newcastle last week that she wanted trainees to «work in a number of different settings» so they could
learn more about school improvement.

learning interventions had the following effects on students ages 5 - 18: decreased emotional distress such as anxiety and depression, improved social and emotional skills (e.g., self - awareness, self - management, etc.), improved attitudes
about self, others, and
school (including higher academic motivation, stronger bonding with
school and teachers, and
more positive attitudes
about school),
improvement in prosocial
school and classroom behavior (e.g., following classroom rules), decreased classroom misbehavior and aggression, and improved academic performance (e.g. standardized achievement test scores).

More than a decade of research, at Harvard and elsewhere, on accountability,
school improvement, and
school organization has become «increasingly specific,» he said, «
about the conditions that promote high - level
learning and performance in educational institutions,» within classrooms and in systems as a whole.
Districts that help their principals feel
more efficacious
about their
school improvement work have positive effects on
school conditions and student
learning.
At this point, the class can take on the role of a study group as it seeks to
learn more about the topic and strategies for
school improvement.
