As conservationists work to recover endangered species populations, taking individuals that are maintained and protected
under human care and reintroducing them into the wild, it becomes apparent that there is a great deal to
learn about the
science of species recovery.

In the postsecondary space, the Gates Foundation made a number of grants — both directly and through NGLC — to intriguing ventures with the potential to improve education dramatically, including some of my disruptive favorites: start - up MyCollege Foundation, which will establish a non-profit college that blends adaptive online
learning solutions with other services at a low cost; University of the People, the world's first tuition - free, non-profit, online academic institution dedicated to opening access to higher education globally; New Charter University, a competency - based university that charges only $ 199 per month for students seeking a degree and for which NGLC will fund a research study of its online students and a comparative one of students enrolled in a blended -
learning environment delivered through a partnership with the Community College of the District of Columbia; Southern New Hampshire University, which
under its President Paul LeBlanc has already created an autonomous online division and will now pioneer the «Pathways Project,» which will offer a self - paced and student - centric associates degree; and MIT, which will use the funds to create a free prototype computer
science online course for edX.

This had long been rumoured to be

As to improvements and lessons
learned by leaders in the interesting but hopelessly raw field of speculation called, for some reason, climate

As an academic who tries (not always successfully) to practice sound
science himself, it is clear to me that Steele is a «scientist's scientist» — thorough and fair to the bone, not resting until he has looked at a complex problem from every angle; faithfully following the evidence wherever it may lead; presenting each argument in keeping with Einstein's motto «as simple as possible, but not simpler»; giving credit where credit is due, even to those people who on the whole confound rather than clarify the issues; and doing all this with a lifetime of
learning and experience
under his belt.

And the training itself is as likely as not to diminish this cognitive function as it is to enhance it, because its practitioners
