This team includes the supervisor and assistant supervisor of accountability; coordinator of accelerated

science, and social studies; supervisor of equity and cultural proficiency; and Title I supervisor.
In research closely related to the
Science IDEAS model, Guthrie and his colleagues (Guthrie & Oztgungor, 2002; Guthrie, Wigfield, Barbosa, & Others, 2004; Guthrie, Wigfield, & Perencevich, 2004) have conducted series of studies showing consistent improvement in student reading comprehension and motivation - to - learn resulting from embedding science - focused instructional modules into traditional reading programs using their CORI

For instance, schools participating in the Carnegie Foundation's Student Agency
Improvement Community, a network of researchers and practitioners applying the
science of
learning mindsets to daily classroom practice, have seen stronger outcomes among low - income black and Latino students since implementing interventions focused on
learning mindsets.34 Equal Opportunity Schools, a national nonprofit organization, has also partnered with school, county, and district leaders to increase the number of black and Latino students enrolled in advanced placement courses and has seen gains in both participation and passage rates as a result.35 In addition, several studies show that
learning mindsets interventions can reduce the effects of stereotype threat among female, black, and Latino students in math and
science classes.36
In the process, they are increasing their own capacity to make and sustain
improvements within their schools using a sequence of steps drawn from
improvement science methodology: define and
learn more about the focus problem, pilot a small change in iterative cycles, and collect and reflect on data from the experience.
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching seeks to serve as a leading resource for innovative practitioners and researchers in education to use the principles of
improvement science to transform teaching and
learning.
This school year, teams from nine public NYC middle, high, and transfer schools are working closely with Eskolta facilitators Alicia Wolcott, Jessica Furer, and Katie Gleason using
improvement science methods featured in Anthony Bryk's book
Learning to Improve: How America's Schools Can Get Better at Getting Better to help their students develop habits, skills, and beliefs for confronting challenges and achieving success in school and life.

Specific provisions included scholarships and loans to students in higher education, with loans to students preparing to be teachers and to those who showed promise in the curricular areas of mathematics,
science, engineering, and modern foreign languages; grants to states for programs in mathematics,
science, and modern foreign languages in public schools; the establishment of centres to expand and improve the teaching of languages; help to graduate students, including fellowships for doctoral students to prepare them to be professors at institutions of higher
learning; assistance for the
improvement of guidance, counseling, and testing programs; provisions for research and experimentation in the use of television, radio, motion pictures, and related media for educational purposes; and the
improvement of statistical services at the state level.
The Foundation aims is to serve as a catalyst for the
