In this near perfect story
of an unlikely 100 - year - old man, the
audience follows Allan Karlsson (portrayed wonderfully by Robert Gustafsson) as he
leaves his old
age home to literally go anywhere.
That
leaves two potential demographics for the movie, with a wide
age gap in between — older
audiences who recall the original black - and - white Stooges shorts and features, and small children who will be receptive to the barrage
of silly slapstick gags and pratfalls.
Built around the notion that anything outrageous is funny, the makers
of «American Wedding» bank on the idea that easy teen - and college -
age audiences won't care about tediously underwritten characters, a general lameness
of humor and flaccid attempts at emotional investment (Jim takes Michelle on a romantic walk on the beach) as long as those
audiences leave the theater with one or two over-the-top howlers to talk about.
The first Paddington was one
of those rarities; a film that caters for absolutely everyone and every single member
of the
audience, no matter their
age, sex or creed,
left the screening with a great big stupid grin on their face and it was a joy to behold.
