In an effort to recognize employees» changing
family dynamics, the New York - based professional services firm announced this week that it is offering up to 16 weeks of paid
leave for employees to
care for a
family member — regardless of whether it's
for a new baby or
sick relative.
The proposed bill, agreed to by the mayor and Council Speaker Melissa Mark - Vivertio but not yet introduced or passed in the council, will expand the size of businesses required to provide paid
sick leave from 15 or more employees to 5 or more employees, accelerate it's applicability so that all covered businesses must comply by April 1, 2014 (businesses with 15 - 20 employees have until April 1, 2015 under the existing law), remove exemptions

He said he also likes the governor's revised paid
family leave proposal, which would phase in a rate of 2/3 of a worker's pay
for up to 12 weeks of time off to
care for a newborn or

family leave for all employees with at least four weeks on the job, all in the hopes of helping new parents and workers who need to
care for sick family members.

sick leave, many workers struggle to provide

sick family member.
