lead schools in 2017/18, of which 6,672 were for undergraduate
ITT; figures, which continue the increase in the number of aspiring teachers choosing on the job training as their preferred method of a route into teaching.

Despite the challenges ahead, the report identifies cautious room for optimism: it found evidence to suggest that R&D is becoming increasingly embedded within the other areas of the Big 6, and particularly within school -
led initial teacher training (
ITT) and continuing professional development (CPD).
The government's review of
ITT,
led by Stephen Munday, recommended in July 2016 that
ITT providers «should ensure that SEND training is integrated across the
ITT programme».

Lead schools and
ITT providers are responsible for ensuring that the funding being received is spent for the purposes intended and providing independently audited accounts each year.
