With the Switch in handheld mode,
the left Joycon ties movement to the analogue stick and the four directional buttons - but neither are perfect.
The square button on
the left Joycon is the capture button for capturing screenshots of gameplay.
Your lock on can be changed with the press of a button, but this button is unfortunately mapped to the up button on
the left Joycon, requiring players to take their thumb off of the movement stick to change their locked target.
When I turn on my Switch, only the right JoyCon immediately turns on and syncs and after the home screen comes up, the console tells me to press the left shoulder button on
the left JoyCon to turn it on.

In ARMS» case the
left / right
joycons are your
left and right arms respectively.
And though a charging grip accessory is available, the
JoyCon last about 20 hours by themselves, so unless you don't plan on
leaving them in the docked system while away, you shouldn't need to pick one up yet.
In that configuration, the tiny B and X buttons of the
JoyCon R then become the
left and right flipper buttons, respectively.
