We used to use the
leftover scraps of
dough to make pretty designs for our
pies, but I never thought to do it like this!
For the cherry
pies, I filled the muffin tins with prepared cherry filling and then topped it with a few strips of
leftover dough to form a lattice.
You know how you take
leftover bits of
pie crust
dough, sprinkle them with cinnamon - sugar, and bake up a crisp, buttery / sugary treat?
Mix together whatever
leftover meat and vegetables you have in the fridge, maybe bind with a gravy or cheese sauce, top with
pie dough, and bake.
Then I rolled out the
leftover dough, cut a star out of the
dough with my largest star cookie cutter, placed a small dot of butter on top of each mini
pie, topped with the cut out star, brushed with egg wash, then sprinkled with sugar.
