Talks Tech: law firms need better time & billing software — real - time billing portals would be helpful
When we
talk about
legal tech, we're
talking about the use of artificial intelligence (or «AI») software, «smart» or «automated» documents and e-discovery and document review tools (to name but a few).
Bob, who is the chief IT officer of Baker Hostetler and one of the most astute observers of the
legal tech scene, had the idea to create a consortium of corporate counsel,
tech people and outside counsel to
talk about blockchain, what it can do and where it can go.
At CodeX I heard a number of
legal tech startup CEOs
talking about the difficulty of convincing top machine - learning scientists (for example) to work on
legal projects.
And what that means is, you know, I said when we were
talking about planning the show and what we were going to
talk about, I said, «Look, I don't want to have the conversation about how amazing our smart phones are that everybody leads off every
legal tech conversation with because I'm just tired of that conversation.»
BLP is currently in long - running merger
talks with US law firm Bryan Cave, which is also well - known for its strong focus on leveraging
legal tech.
And then, so you see my blog there and then in the ABA Survey when they
talk about what people learn from things, like, one of the big sources of the ABA Journal were I've written a
tech column for years, and so, I unfairly like to add those numbers together and look at what a large percentage of people are learning about
legal technology for me, and then Tom, of course corrects my analysis of those numbers.
