Cases For A Cause campaign run by the Arlington Heights Park District, which benefits two different donation centers (Children's Home &
Aid & Journey's: The Road Home), is not
legally able to provide tax refund receipts to donors.
A thought provoking question and answer session followed, whereby the panel and audience discussed whether using language suggestive of making a value judgment on which types of
cases «deserve» to be
legally aided is unhelpful, and whether as lawyers and future lawyers we have a duty to refrain from acting Pro Bono and effectively «mopping up» some of these
cases, in the interests of revealing the true extent of the issue.
One particularly tragic
case took place recently and involved litigants in person in private law children proceedings, who historically would have had the benefit of
legally aided representation.
