the length of flash fiction.

The standard
length of a short story is usually 2,000 - 3,000 words, but
flash fiction applies the incredibly economical limit
of around 100 words.
In the case
of the
fiction series,
Flash will act as a teaser for readers who are perhaps not willing to invest in a full -
length book by a writer still unknown to them, while also encouraging readers still not convinced by the digital format to try it out.
Flash fiction stories are 250 - 750 words, but this
length has more to do with quality
of attention than duration
of attention.

Whatever may be the
length, the main purpose
of flash fiction is to tell a story in very fewer words as possible.
In terms
of word count,
flash fiction can be anywhere from 100 - 1000 words in
length, with the average around 500 words.
While some argue that it's up to the writer or reader to decide, many writers and literary experts agree that the line between
flash fiction and short story is a matter
of length (short stories are typically 1,000 - 20,000 words), while the line between poetry and short
fiction is a matter
of structure and cadence (though the definition
of poetry is itself often disputed).
But, if it helps, when I'm writing such short
flash fiction, my first draft usually comes in at twice the prescribed
length, then it's just a matter
of distilling the story and tightening the prose.
