Carbs ™ per se, but rather processed and refined foods.
Any «diet» that directly encourages one to eat significantly more real food and significantly
less industrialized food than they previously did is a relatively «healthy» diet regardless of macronutrient composition (i.e high
carb, low
carb, high fat, high protein,
etc.) and food type inclusion / exclusion (i.e vegan, plant - based, gluten - free, paleo,
etc.).
I've been eating more meats / fats and
less carbs for a long time to stave off diabetes,
etc. (I'm 67 years old) So when I heard about all the cancer diet approach (low fat, no meat,
etc.) I ate nothing but rabbit food for awhile, and did not feel as well — I did add back some meat and my healthy coconut oil.
Not only will it be more healthful and delicious but you'll be
less tempted to snack on high
carb sweets, cakes, chocolate, processed foods,
etc..
Also, I don't restrict my
carbs too much, I mostly eat about 30 g net
carbs (up to about 50 g total
carbs mostly from vegetables), sometimes more, sometimes
less depending on whether I exercise (HIIT),
etc..
Many years later, still tinkering with low
carb Paleo, low - fat Paleo, dairy free, nightshade free,
etc., I realize that the harder I try to micro-manage my diet, the
less satisfied I am with my eating experience, the more I obsess about food, and honestly the more unhealthy I feel.
