This factor is most important for consumers who have more limited credit histories and
less information on their credit reports.
But
the less information on your credit report, the bigger factor it plays.
Not exact matches
While it is impossible to put a specific time frame
on credit repair, it is safe to say the
less negative
information you have
on your
report — late payments, maxed out
credit cards, constant
credit applications, bankruptcy, etc. — the easier it is to repair your
credit score.
For anybody, opening a new
credit account will lower your average account age, which will ding your score, more or
less depending
on how much other
credit information is
on your
credit report.
The sudden appearance of key derogatory
information on an otherwise spotless
credit report can cause a deep drop in your FICO score, whereas the effect is far
less dramatic if you already have many negative items
on your
report.
At the end of the day, your
credit rating, FICO ®
credit score, and
credit report will be improving and the
credit bureaus will have
less and
less derogatory
information to
report on you.
Please keep in mind that the goodwill letter is more or
less a «last ditch» effort to have a late payment (or other negative
information) removed from your
credit reports and they have a
less than 20 % chance of working (based
on more recent data from other people I've talked to).
If payment
on credit report is
less than (a), a letter, dated within the last 60 - days directly from the student loan company that reflects the actual loan terms and payment
information is required to use the smaller payment.
Based
on information released from the
credit authority, FICO, a foreclosure may be
less damage and
less time
on your
credit report overall.
What's more, remember that older
information on your
credit report is
less important than more current data points.
Note, however, that your individual score may give some factors more or
less importance based
on the
information in your
credit report.
Remember, the sooner you give the creditor the
information needed to review your situation, the quicker you will be granted the accommodation and be
less likely to receive a negative mark
on your
credit report.
