levels of heartworm disease this year, with «high» levels in the Northeastern United States — including New York State — Central Veterinary Associates is warning pet owners that, with mosquitoes coming out earlier as the result of a warm winter, there will be a greater prevalence of heartworm during the spring season.

The prognosis is based on how severe the
heartworm disease is, how long the dog has had it, the age
of the dog, the activity
level before and during treatment, and the dog's immune system response.
It's important to note that the seriousness
of the
disease depends upon a number
of factors including the number
of heartworms present, the activity
level of the dog and the dog's individual response to the infestation.
A decrease in activity
level can be the sign
of an infection, such as
Heartworms or Kennel cough, or
of a
disease, such as Diabetes, heart
disease, or liver
disease.
