In their world review of nonindustrial societies, the Embers found that frequent corporal punishment of children is more common in societies with high
levels of social stratification and / or low levels of democracy.
They also classified each society's
level of social stratification as «egalitarian,» «moderately stratified,» or «highly stratified.»
